All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.
― George Orwell, Animal Farm (1945)
A quick read but an important one. Animal Farm is a short novel written by George Orwell and published in 1945. It is a political allegory about revolution and power. Various episodes in the novel are taken from the actual history of the Russian Revolution of 1917.
Animal Farm is the story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer and try to create a society where they can be equal and free. Through a very simple story, Orwell shows how ruling elites exploit the working class to provide for their own aristocratic needs and how propaganda and suppression of education can be used to create a culture of deception. By bending history, twisting information and maintaining a poor level of education, the perception of reality can be altered, adjusted and turned to the advantage of a particular group.
